EDIT: Per usual, the thumb is poor. I put in too much work for you not to see it full view! XP

Typical >_< I spend an exorbitant amount of time on a wall...& in the end it looks empty. T_T

But moving on: The original idea was to vector an image from the Genji scrolls of the 11th(?) c. However, while Google-ing jpegs for that, I stumbled onto these Yoshitaka Amano illustrations of Genji >> Amano's World, and was struck by their drama and beauty. So I changed my plans and vectored one of those instead XD The original image was of Genji embracing the woman; but, since I only wanted to feature the woman, I inserted a bg with carpet and clouds from another image.

Most of the time spent on this wall was spent on..."guessing" what the flowers in her robe should look like, since my source jpeg isn't exactly hq. The shading on those flowers was then painted in manually. Also brushed in some details: sakura blossoms on the carpet, splatter on her robe; and finished with some overlaid textures.

The calligraphy I extracted from various places: the "Tale of Genji" (right) I got from a restaurant ad, the "dream" (center top) from an educational website, the "Amano Yoshitaka" (left) from the cover of MONO 1. The hiragana (center bottom) I got from a chart; it spells out "a.wa.re," which means, roughly, "pathos." Apparently, the word is used over 1000 times in "The Tale of Genji" T_T I can only hope that I spelt it right.

In the process of vectoring, I neglected many of the stray lines that characterize Amano's work. For instance, the original has some billowing strands of hair, and bluish lips. I don't know if that lowers its quality as a Yoshitaka Amano wall, but I think that it makes more sense as a vector.

Comments and suggestions welcome.
