Felt like trying something with a more traditional Japanese look. ^_^'

The original image is Woman in a Summer Shower by Suzuki Harunobu: it shows a woman going out to get her laundry in the midst of an unexpected summer shower. I wanted to focus on the flowing lines of her robes in the wind, so I vectored just that. then inserted my own textures XD The obi & inner robe are scans of origami paper, with some other textures overlaid. Her outer robe is a combination of cloud stock, brushing, and some very faint leather textures. It looks like a paper cut-out, ne?

The background I wanted to look light, so a cloud stock seemed the natural choice. & slipped in a rain effect ::though I know it's scarcely visible on the beiges:: to give the background just a hint of motion.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Ok. I already faved this before ;) but now is time for some new highlights :P so here I go again. Due to the recent discussion that was predominantly about the highlights, me, belmikry and shyxsakura discussed highlights and this is the only one that the two of us agreed since the very begining ;)

Ok. Why I wanted to highlight this wallpaper:
blueSake is very a talented and amazing artists. She experiments a lot and tries to find new means of expression. A master of originality and uniqueness. Honestly. this wall is outstanding in my humble opinion. Hardly anyone could express so many emotions and create this kinf of mood through such use of a perspective and choice of a theme. Which is even multiplies by the sole background (yes the clouds :P). The technique is awesome there is no denying that :) Another big plus is that japanesee'ness of the wall, enhanced by the very good choice of textures. I am really awaiting your new creations :] I am sure you will surprise us with your future walls ^^

Your original ideas always impress me, 'sake. Lovely vector and nice textures... and overall soothing wall. Love it. :)

I like the vector and concept here. While others have been going towards the "over-texture" feel, you have been trying to go else where with your art.

Great work bluSake, I hope to see more from you soon.

wow, i'm in love with the softness this wall is giving off
    "set as background"
the color tone is just right...nothing fancy....simply beautiful...
    excellent job blusake!~ ^^

  4. jaszi5 Nov 23, 2005

I like the atmosphere..and color you used..

  5. kakitsubata Nov 23, 2005

although i'm not so sure what part of the lady i'm looking at, it's a wondrously soft wall! ^________^ my favourite bit has to be the patterns on her bow. the colours are just perfect, and the simpleness is jawdropping, as of your usual work. great wall! *thumbs up*

  6. Vetrox Nov 23, 2005

Nice and cosy wallpaper, something to rest my eyes on. Thank you!

  7. fawna-chan Nov 23, 2005

oh...i really like the colors and the calm feeling i get...*sigh*

... :) I'm so happy that the Asian style is in. Although I'm trying very very hard to suppress the Asian-style-fetish within... rofl. Great vector... I love the colors :D excellent use of textures and patterns... where do you find so many beautiful floral patterns? @_@ Beautiful text work too... and yah, I can barely see the rain effect :P But the mellowness of the wall is lovely :) I kind of wish that you'd vectored the woman too... I'm curious as to what she looked like :P Not that I think it detracts from this wall in anyway not to have her there :)

lol I can see the rain, but I think some people might mistake it for the texture of rice paper instead--- it's somewhat similar (sorta XP)
Overall I like this. Especially with the origami paper patterns and the textures are used very well.
Hmmm. The only thing I would have to think about again is how you used the kanji "kaze" or feng- I don't know... I think it's a bit cut off lol, but the insert of a kanji does get the juices going along nicely :)

Aaaah, getting a summer evening feeling here! Very nice! I like the textures you've used very much!

Like jassie said, this wall is one of the best walls you've made yet.
We all agreed on this wall when Jassie and I nominated it, so here you go <3 A fantastic wall!

This wall is one hot, spicy, neat, mellow, dreamlikeheavenly wall... there's not that many wallers who can pull these kinds of styles, but you and a few others pull it off wonderfully. It's subtle-ness is hot, and it's just breathtaking. Great job!

Great work. This is indeed your best wallpaper so far IMO. the textures and patterns blend perfectly in this smoothness. The vector adds depth with it's crisp-ness and dark outlines. This be abstract or scenic, I don't know, but it looks very good. And vectoring ukiyo-e is a magnificent idea I cannot wait to try :D

  14. anji Nov 24, 2005

Oh the rain effect is very subtle, I'm glad you talk about it, I might not have seen it.
This wall is made of subtle element and that's why it's interesting I think.
Though this kind of beige is less my style, I really like those origami print you work with and especially those blue/green one. The mix of color there is very nice.
And I also like that watercolor style the wall has.
I wish I could do original wall like this ;)

  15. Devildude Nov 25, 2005

this is very unique, i shall refrain from commenting as most have been mantioned, loved the feeling it gives me. I think this is another new step towards another new way of applying arts here in MT. I think it is very beautiful. Just when i needed something other than general anime walls. cleans my soul and mind just looking at the wall.

  16. teepoo Nov 25, 2005

whoa this is so strange and at first i didnt know wat it is but o______________O its so interestingly cool.. if that makes any sense *scratches head*

  17. kaiser47 Nov 25, 2005

bluSake, you always create something special. In this case, I sense a traditional feel that is really hard to do. The mixture of textures only provide a soothing sensation which adds to the greatness of this wall.

I have a question though. Why is there a symbol of "wind" in the title?

  18. Devilet Nov 25, 2005

From the thumbnail it looks kind of stupid, but if you view it in full it certainly can surprise you. I haven't seen a wallpaper like this ... errm, ever I don't think. It's very original indeed, in an artistic point of view. It's clean and crisp, simple, one of those wallpapers I'd use on my desktop, I like how it's asian traditional style, gives you a calming feeling. I can't really express how good you are at bringing out this style of yours, all I can say is: Keep walling. XD MT needs someone like you!

  19. Tiferet Nov 29, 2005

even though the thumbnail's not so great, it still stands out beautifully, nice work :)

  20. Kinkosami Nov 29, 2005

This is very nicely done! I really like it a lot. The colors and puffy clouds in the background are so relaxing, and I really like the Kanji in the background, the meaning fits nicely with the wall.
Thank you for making such a pretty wallpaper, this is going in my favorites. ^_^

0___0;; Wow, errr this is very interesting! Simple, abstract, and light on color yet very compelling and guaranteed to raise MT member's eyebrows! ^_^' Funny that U call your wallie "Laundry Day" cause it totally reminds me of a Downy commerical! LOL Anyhoo, thumbs up Sake and congrats on the highlight! ;)
