Header note: Sorry for those who have been looking at me sending lots of gallery items these few days. The one submitted last week was sent due to that I can't ressist the wait, I mean... long wait! >.< Okay, after this one, you'll not be seeing me sending gallery items probably within 2 weeks or so. I'm busy with some other stuffs I need to complete (I'm still online, just that I wanna do something else. If it's not for the UA competition, I will not force myself to wall *coughs*)

Description:

This is a wall under the heading Mad Science, theme number 7 for UA's fornightly competition. Praise those who strive for perfection, breaks the law of nature and goes insane to achieve their dreams.

Why robot?

I chose a Turn A Gundam scan to match the mad science concept. Turn A is a huge ancient robot, found within the CC Era where Loran Cehack first found this huge thingy and activated it. Basically, Turn A is an ancient mecha. But yeah... I took the serial number and named it as a project. Who cares anyways... I hate Turn A Gundam but I dunno why I ended up walling a Gundam I hate so much. >.<

Okay, main point. In my opinion, the development of huge robots and battle weapons known as General Purpose Utility Non-Discontinuing Augmentation Maneuver WEAPON SYSTEM or General Unilateral Neuro-link Dispersive Autonomic Maneuver System in Gundam Seed or Generation: Unsubdued Nuclear Drive/Assault Module complex by ZAFT... whichever you think is cool... is created mainly for warfare, and thus, having a very big size, about 1x.xx meter high. A Gundam defines the breakings of the law of nature, the appearance of Newtypes (Universal Century) and Coordinators (Cosmic Era) which was created through mad science technology explains it all. These are mad science projects!! Well, in my opinion, mad science doesn't have to be a mad scientist pouring liquid into a test tube and cackles out "I'm going to rule the world!".

In-depth explanation of this wal:

Basically, this wall features Turn A Gundam as a newly developed weapon system, with their base situated near a valley. Why valley? Do you expect someone to test drive a huge big robot in a congested city? Now, the project was completed right during the evening/dawn, whatever. But the developer insist on test-driving Turn A Gundam, so... that's why the surroundings are pretty dark, and explains why Turn A Gundam's eye is shining so bright. Yes, Gundam's eyes shine and lit bright when activated. During the test drive, they scared off some birds and the birds' evacuation from a nearby tree causes all the leaves to fly around.

    Ooooh... A Gundam. Gundamnit! XD

Anyways... I see a lot of effort on the bg of this wall. Gee... dunno if that's a wall or something but I guess the texture's good but the color is kinda... you know...

I must say that the scan was very well made. You vectored it very good and the extraction is fine. Very nice...

  2. pyromaniac-kitty Oct 24, 2005

Good one here...I too make good wells when I feel sick XD I love the texture and it really gives that "horizon feel" ! Keep it up...this is one of your best works yet :D

Nice! The sky is great and the scans and birds are awesome. The rocks seem a bit strange, but other than that, nice work!

  5. iiwa Oct 24, 2005

    nice vectors done sofia-chan!
the simple plain bg does compliment some parts of the wallie.. but i have to agree with Chloe-chan.. the rocks look somewhat odd..
im not that into Gundam or robots x_x but anyway, good job sofia!
i hope you get well soon, too! >.<

great job on the vectoring i dont see any jagged lines and such. and the sky and colors in the background gives that sort of gloomy look like just before theres a storm. its a simple wallie but quite effective. nice work ^^

  7. Midori-chan Oct 24, 2005

the vector you did is great^^
and the atmosphere in the wallie suits the Mad Science theme^^
i like the bird and leaves a lot^^ it makes the wall look lifely^^
a little clouds in the sky would make it look better, cause the weather is gloomy, an there must be quite a lot of clouds^^
great job!! keep up the good work! ;)

  8. Kiako Oct 24, 2005

hm... let's see, the sky looks too epmty, maybe you should try adding some clouds that would look like clouds. some of the black parts are too blury. and i don't know what the dark part on the lower side of the wall there is suposed to represent and the text isn't fitting because of it's color it looks disturbing.

  9. Acuni Oct 24, 2005

yes well i don't know what to say
it is grey and it is empty..............
it needs work... i think it is all i would like to say

hahahah my friends brother used to say that everytime I went over to my friends house to watch Gundam Wing cause I dont have cable XD XD

Ok down to business from the thumbnail I thought it look really overly bland but hey you can never trust a thumbnail. When I looked at the full view I was like wow great work. Vectoring a mecha is not a fun job to do but you done it so well. Bonus points with that. Its also very plain and simple too which I like makes focuses more on the Gundam which is the main focal point on the wall. Plus the birds are so scared that they are running away in terror XD some of them had a collision with each other *snickers*

Overall all there is nothing I can pick out of it that I dont like a very good wall and good luck with the comp :D

Wahou, birdies are great and the sky too. The gundam is well-integrated too ^__^ I don't know Gundam so far, but I likr it. good work Ephi-chan

Nice work :) I like Turn A Gundam. I don't really watch or read Gundam but I like Turn A the most.

I've never actually seen Turn A Gundam before, so I cannot comment on anything substantive relating to your composition, but from my neophyte's perspective, I think that you've done some good work here. The vectoring is not bad, and your texturing of the cliff face and the sky are good too.

My only criticism for this wallpaper really is the fact that it is fairly unbalanced. For example, there overwhelming majority of the composition sits in the lower right-hand quadrant. Then you have a dark cliff along the bottom quarter of the wallpaper, above which is a flock of birds and some leaves blowing in the wind. Above, there's nothing but sky. This all makes the bottom feel particularly heavy in a way that I feel may have been lessened by perhaps reducing the height of the cliff face. Then there's the Gundam itself. I've found that when the subject of a wallpaper sits on one side of the composition, having the text on the other side, or having enough material in the opposite background, does much to balance the composition out, but that isn't quite the case here.

Balance issues aside, this is still a very good effort that demonstrates very good technique.

I like how the sky is done, and the vectoring is done well. The birds and leaves are good too. The only thing that bothers me is the large rock at the back...it looks a little flat or something and the text looks a little out of place or muddled...apart from that I think it represents 'Mad Science' really well. -Shira

Hmm, I am looking through the wallpapers for the UA 7 competition... this one... it rather looks to me as if some pieces have been simply put together... the gray background for examply... It looks a bit like a simple "filler" since a white background won't work. Same goes for the birds and the other pieces that are brushed on the wallpaper. I would not have added those, to tell you the truth.
I also don't understand why you put the text into the right side of the wallpaper as well. So I agree with shinsengumi, it makes the bottom and especially the right bottom feel really heavy...

Well maybe I should not write a comment about wallpapers like this I don't like these robots in general... *lol* But I want to write a comment on each Ua 7 wallie... so here it is. ;)
However your wallpaper fits into the category "Mad Science" quite well... ^_^
