I used tutorials from DeviantArt to make the bg, but I did all on my own :)

well wonderful job on your first attempt at space background, it looks wonderful, and it looks like theres some texture to the planets, that looks pretty cool.
and the effects and colors looks great, and the character blends pretty good with the background. overall nice job ^^ -

Very magical!! The planets look like you spent so much time on them. And the many stars too! I love the colorful little gas clouds too ^^ What a nice touch! And your scan is cute =)
