Expectations? We expect to see a clean MT3! MT2 is nowadays pretty much crowded with junk in the recent submissions and not only that, it seems to be an ongoing problem, symbolised by our barbed wire. "Friend-whoring", "ripping" and "spamming" are terms that pop up too often, like a sticker branding the site. The site is now a grounds full of danger and nasty little shocks, which is contributing to a big, crazy and forbidding place.

There are 5 buildings on the side. MT2 is rather congested, and many of the MT peeps are bound by those three labels- and because of them, can't get anywhere.

Hopefully, our group expects a clean and friendly environment into the transition of MT3. Calm, user friendly, and we also expect to hear applause for our stuff in the future.

We'll keep on lookin' forward. Don't fail our expectations, for we stand by "semper sint in flore"- may they, our group and other wallers, forever flourish.

Oh, and if you want, the guy in the middle can be the mods... uhhh after all, they are the ones we are counting on to look out for a better Minitokyo :)

And uh if you people don't really see that kind of expectation, there's the literal one- Taiki in city life, expecting something closer to nature or a sort of spiritual connection with the environment. Expecting something soulful, and much more relaxing than the busy city life.

NOTE: If the top left hand corner is too blinding, lower the monitor brightness thanks.

Comments: Initially I was supposed to vector the whole piece, color and all, but I didn't think I could maintain the soft gradient of color as well as EvoIIICE9A could, so I decided to make sure that the whole team had a wall aspect to work on (the major areas being scan [lines + color], cityscape, landscape and finishing touches) so I just set the stage with my outline (which looks pretty on it's own, I must say ^_^) and some helpful suggestions to pass on to the next person to keep the file organized and easy to work with as more people pick it up. I'm a bit of a control freak so I figure it's best for me to start things off and leave the rest to everyone else or I may well want to rearrange everything other people have done ^_^; The contribution order was decided by me taking into account people's strengths and interests... and what needed to be done of course. I think Misa is the best to end things off because she's got a really good eye for things that need to be done and fixed up, so she's the best choice to end things with. And that's about all I have to say...

Comments: Thanks to my work in Freehand I have done intricate work like this before through the use of blends. After talking with Terra-chan it was decided that I would take over the colour for the collab (I wanted the city scape but noooo I had to get this :P) Instead of my traditional blending with Freehand and importing into Photoshop I decided to keep to PS and so each layer can be manipulated afterwards if anyone else needed to. 99.9% of the work was done with airbrush, gradients and a few pastel brushes. I also discovered the use of the eraser tool worked so well with making shadows and rough surfaces with the right colour layer underlay specially since it made it blend in with the picture. My only dilemma with it was the hair, after 3 re-do's I couldnt seem to get the hair the way I wanted it. After the 3rd go I had to be satisfied with it since time was running short and just hope like hell Misa will do her best to make it all better.

Comments: Well, I do wonder why I was handed this, but of course I step up and take a swing. My previous experience with constructing a city from the Kino No Tabi experiment came in handy here. Nothing traced, its all freehand. It looks a little..well, abstract I suppose, but I wanted more the *feel* of a decayed, old, dirty city than the exact mechanics of one. As usual, brushes are my friend; brickwork, scratches, smoke, ironwork, etc all comprise this one. Multiple gradients stretched and fitted in different ways helped with the lighting. I had problems at first with some buildings looking too..complete. I wanted this to look like it was falling apart, not gleaming and new. Like an old dowager who`s body has just finally gone too far, and is vainly trying to make do. I didnt extend it too far figuring that the grassy/plant/pretty nature field would take up most of the space. I threw in the balcony after realizing the scale difference, betting that the city would look proper once the railing and such were added. So, here`s to hoping Misa works her magic and makes my crap alllll good once more.

Job: Natural landscape with soft feel on left side of wall
Time Spent: approx 8 hours
Comments: I originally intended to just copy a few of the flowers, but then I ended up getting carried away on Illustrator: the symbol spray can is one heck of a tool! [This partly came from me rereading the Chronicles of Narnia: there's this bit in the 5th book "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" where it describes a wonderful white lily field stretching out all around towards the horizons. Gawd I love that book. Err. Sorry for the useless trivia.] Well, I isolated and cleaned up the two flowers in Photoshop, quite an easy job with all the good work from Terra-chan and EvoIIICE9A, and then transformed them into symbols on Illustrator. Spent a few hours spraying and resizing and rotating and then spraying and resizing and rotating the flowers into a convincing flowerfield type object. When that was done, I copied the flowerfield back into Photoshop and then played around for another few hours with duplicate layers of the flowerfield and individual flowers; many many layers involved. I was finally satisfied with it, so I decided to fade the flowers further back with some brushwork to enhance the sense of depth. Masked it too, so as to not affect Misa's work later on. And oh yes, I didn't forget those lovely petals.

Comments: MT crashed so much I rushed everyone to just do this random plan I wrote up, and everything went on from there, due to panic. Terra-chan was the one who suggested the category and I picked a scan quickly... I wanted to do stuff with originality so I got this last I spose. It was also that MT crash that helped me too. The most anticipated thing apart from w.a.r (which other groups are doing hint: lucky we took another path) would have to be the transition into MT3 IMO. So I looked at the plan and thought "haha! That works!". I did snitch a few ideas here and there (signs on buildings~ courtesy walkure245's doujin entry and Teryon's wall of it) but added in "friend whoring" because that wasn't done before. I changed the cityscape a bit, added my own brushes to it. I threw a gradient into the sky, vectored the clouds to go with the whole clean look, and I shoved the MT2 sign in. Realised it was tough getting different styles to fit, especially when I don't really have one, so I added some abstract effects to the sky and grunged most of what's on screen. The whole spectrum is there more or less. Kudos if you can figure out where the MT2 sign came from... or looks like ;)

I'm not used to this stroke-type vector like on the girl, but overall the wall is really stunning. Yeah, MT is getting... *cough* anyway, +favs for the work and the concept.

This really is a fabulous wall and sort of makes me want to design better and better myself. It's very inspiring. My favorite parts are Taiki himself, all the recoloring and textures on his outfit, as well as the flowers. The "techy" bits I don't care for so much: like the grid, the spikes, etc. as they seem kind of out of place with Taiki himself as well as the series itself. Great color combinations, truly a beautiful wallpaper.
