I think it looks best in B+W too, but perhaps using light watercolors or colored pencil could create an equally striking
effect.
Make a couple Xeroxes and experiment... :)

Most of my Hagane-no-Samurai ideas and pictures are inspired by the inimitatable Stan Sakai. His art style is absolutely breathtaking. This is mostly homage to him ... it started out as a doodle based loosely on one of his pictures and turned into... this. I'm quite impressed by how it turned out, even if Edward's proportions look screwy to me.
I may actually color it, to see how color would look on it but I prefer it stark black and white. It's much more striking that way.
The kana reads "Hagane no Samurai", of course.
