My poster for the NewWaveProject's movie poster event.
When I first saw the thread, I knew I wanted to do a Kill Bill poster, because the movie is eye-popping and original, and the girl gets a sword. But after fruitlessly trying to twist something inventive out of my brain...I gave up. Then I remembered a photo of an Edo-period jacket with a torn fan on the back that I saw in Japanese art history, and I thought: what if I put the Bride's silhouette on the back of a kimono? This is what the idea morphed into. An image of Jin from an official Samurai Champloo wall popped into my head, and I thought the pose was perfect, so I vectored it for the poster. The textured blue was taken from the Bride's fight with O-Ren, and the indigo that Edo-period printmakers used. The blood splatter was a must, because it's "roaring rampage of revenge." And once you've given into 2 primary colors, why not give into the Kill Bill look and put in the yellow?
Comments and suggestions welcome.
Thank you Dream: this was a fun break from walling :) .

i've been following this comp for a little time right now... all the entries are so good, and this one is no exception! i love vectored stuff. just a little problem with the jpeg compression, i think, makes the edges of the blood stains kinda dirty. definite fav though!

Cool idea. I've seen the Champloo poster, nice work on that. Great colour selection too, the red realy stands out!
So, will you print it out and use it? :)
