BACKCHAT: 15/May/07: For a long while now since my return to MT, I thought it would be an interesting endeavour to look again through the very first submissions within our gallery and review them in a modern and perhaps maturer light. Let's talk about this piece here for a minute:

This work's a hard one to swallow. I can't remember exactly, but I believe it's one of the oldest and perhaps even the very first works to ever enter my gallery. The primary art was rescanned and remodelled into another separate work entitled Idle Insanity: REVISTED but according to the MT Moderation team, it just didn't top this one. I don't see why that's so - admittedly, the primary art was a very difficult selection to start with. It's a boxed in image as originally drawn by Minekura which means extracting it from it's framed environment was quite a task. When I look at this piece now I could pick it apart until it hurts. Its not worth it however, I did what no one else in the Saiyuki gallery could do with this piece at the time. It was an early work, but it marks some very important revolutions in digital design. Only a handful of people felt the same. I know - It's not really much to look at now, is it?

Genjo Sanzo: Idle Insanity

Gritty & Unsettling.

This wallpaper artwork cuts close to the nerve in the wake of its bloody aftermath. An original illustration from one of Saiyuki's many highly acclaimed art books, this particular design features a somewhat blood splattered Genjo Sanzo, cigarette in mouth, pistol in hand and an assortment of practical items on the floor about him. The wall behind him is scrawled with letters and numbers speaking of algebraic mathematical proportions. Fans will understand this paradox considering when first assaulting a demon with ten seconds to speak, shooting for his head after two seconds and then claiming he "sucked at math" will find it a delicious double edge to his blade-like character. I deem this work to be particularly potent in its noir characteristics. The original illustration is so powerful with Sanzo sitting to respite and barefoot in what may well be a white room. His glare into the ceiling speaks chillingly of a moment's unstoppable madness. Whose blood stains his hands? What did he do in that room? Indeed, here we witness the aftermath of a momentary lapse of reason.

A pleasure to construct, this piece demonstrates multi-layered brush work, noise and lighting FX and CG vectoring.
This is a completely original construction, please do not reproduce or redistribute this artwork in any way without my explicitly expressed permission.
Enjoy! :)
