Here we are at contest 4 of The Underappreciated Group. The Theme this time is to make a wallpaper based on the quote from Garth Brooks "Life is not tried it is merely survived when you're standing outside the fire" And to use "underappreciated" scans.
Well the scans I vectored for this aren't from minitokyo and the images aren't used in any wallpapers I know of... so Here's my submission... the style I did it in is actually inspired by two entries in the last contest: RahX101 and kakitsubata
When the contest was first posted I started browsing minitokyo for scans, but I just couldn't find any that would work with this contest in series I knew... so after browsing the "Hunter x Hunter" category, I went into my own collection and found these manga images, vectored them and made this wallpaper... The flame gradients gave me a lot of trouble for a while since I wanted Killua and Gon to have different colors around them, but I still wanted them to work together... After trying very different colors (Blue and Gold) I eventually settled for this slightly tinted shade style for the wall. ^_^ I used MissM's "Phoenix" brush in the BG. I worried it might be a little too elaborate, but after adding the text, I think it works pretty good...
[edit] since people were annoyed at the text at Gon's mouth I edited it. I also did a little clean up that I noticed needed to be done.

Aww... I love this! Looks really great.... there is only one detail that bothers me... the word -standing- reaches Gon's mouth... somehow looks a bit... whatever...
all in all it deserves a fav! ^__^

lol this is so cute! I see a huge improvement and you're starting to use those brushes :) and the gradients xd
i think the only thing really is the text... that sticks to his mouth... but overall I really like the strong colours you have used :)

Killua! He's my fav. XD Your vectors are definitely improving. The only lil things would be that the connection where you break from the pen needs to be a lil smoother and connected at points. It's lil details but it creates a cleaner curve. The fire surrounding them are really a great idea and it looks really well done. I like the colors in the bg and the brushes create another layer look to your fire bg. You picked really cute b/w pics to go with your main images. Really nice work~

hahah this is so funny seeing this wall now spec after watching the Hunter x Hunter musical. I havent watched the anime thou but the musical is funny. Umm how old was this wall I didnt check hehehe but you need to work a bit on shading now, the 2 dudes (oh god I hope they are guys) look a little flat. On a side random note wtf is The Underappreciated Group heheh
