I've always been a fan of Yoshitaka Amano's stylized artwork and watercolors. I found it's difficult
walling him and maintaining that sense of style. I liked this image because... I'm not sure, but the idea of summoning
the storm was pretty powerful. I discovered just how hard it is to extract watercolor artwork.
The sky is made from a blending of at least half-a-dozen stock photos of storm clouds, lightning, and lighting effects,
some of which I overlaid over the character art as well, so it seems like he is summoning power.
Lots of texture, again I've overdone the texture but I wanted it to be a dark, gritty image more of raw power than
of smooth lines - plus it helps integrate the character art and the background better.
The original image was a tannish brown, which I then slowly colored more towards a purple (at one point it became blue,
but that didn't feel right and I went back to the purple). Purple seems to be a good color for storm clouds and
lightning, at least according to a lot of stocks I found.

I think you've successfully managed to convey that idea of a storm being summoned, and the wallpaper looks nice. Purple is a rare colour or most likely it is rare to have a whole wallpaper being coloured with purple tones... but it looks good and it does its job in conveying the atmosphere of an incoming storm. My only little complaint is the text, somehow the font seems too simple and not so much "evocative" like I think it should be, considering the theme and atmosphere of the scene.
Anyway, good job as always. :)
Its like the LOTR's horn of gondor and the sounding of the horn portayed with the backgroud is so illuminating with power and movemnt, i lik eit...Grea tjob asalways Tama! :)
wow, pretty! i love the purple color! this is a really good image! nice work with this! :D
Anicent tablet type of wallie. Simply mavelous! Keep it up!
man these Amano walls are freakin gorgeous! Great color use here, and nice image choice! It'ls like a piece of art!
the blending of stock photos look flawless, and we really get a sense of the power you're trying to convey through your choice of colors and textures. :D
To be honest, I've never cared a great deal for Amano's work. I know that a lot of Final Fantasy fans love it to death, but while I periodically enjoy the feel to some of his stuff I still find myself largely uninterested most of the time.
With all that said, I like what you've done with this piece quite a bit. I love the grainy, almost aged parchment sort of look that you've added, and the integration of the separate images looks pretty much flawless to my (admittedly unpracticed) eye.
You've managed to make an Amano piece work for me, which is no mean accomplishment. Awesome job, Tama-Neko. :)
ooh, they look very grungy. and the texture is really nice. impressive piece of waller.
you could even pass it off as a painting and hang it in one of the museums if it's solid. ^^
very nice. +fav
Mmm~... Stunning, absolutely stunning. You seemlessly captured Mr. Yoshitaka's style with the grainy and aged look of the piece. However i do wish that wallers phase out that big letter cliche, I don't like to look at big ugly letters in the middle of beautiful masterpieces. This is still a big fav though, <3 Yoshitaka Amano & Tama banana. You go girl, you go.
woo i luv the color in this one.
the grungy feel definitely create the stormy feel...oh and i see there's some lightning too.!
the scan looks really hard to wall...but u did a great job here...
it just blends in with the background so nicely.....
hah, and thx for plugging my wall!!~ omg @_@
the wall rocks.
but i dont really like the blurriness or the character.. >.>
and i really really don't like the strong S in summon ..
but i LOVE the theme and the feel .. <3
first off this wallpaper is based of markjo's Elric: Stormbringer scan. i feel this is one of the more neglected scans in her incredible gallery.

i agree. great job Tama-Neko, on the background it is top notch as usual and your hard work shows through. the details of your bg are awesome and complement the mood of the wallpaper.
actually i have only one minor complaint: your titling of "Yoshitaka". personally i would have used Amano - since that is his last name.
note: yes, i know he uses Yoshitaka Amano verus Amano Yoshitaka which is customary. but Amano should be used if going by one name.
great job

whoa! looks at all that texture @__@
pity that the scan is not so sharp and crisp ^^
but it fits rather well with the wall... old looking and the overdone textures really give a feeling of a storm.
tama's a genius when it comes to walls... looks great *fav*
To be honest, after a week of thinking and viewing it, I am still undecided whether I like this one or not. I
appreciate the effort you have put into the wallpaper and as usually I admire your ideas and skills, but...
I love the feeling of power that you conveyed through the lightnings and the fact that you accentuated the sword,
nevertheless I am not very fond of the colour (my preference would be dark blue / greyish kind of colour) and the heavy
texturizing.
I guess I feel too strong for the original work to be totally objective. Sorry.
i think it looks pretty awesome...good job on it....texture and lightning things are pretty cool...
Very nice scan and this illustration approved that Amano is a great unique artist.
