Please Full View! This is my submission for the Under-A contest. Whew, I hope I made it in time. ><
Anyone here play DDR? There's a song on there that made me draw this.
Here's the link to the song:
http://www.powow.com/rahx101/Ghosts%20(Vincent%20De%20Moor%20Remix).mp3
It works if you c/p it to the address bar instead. Don't worry, it's only a 1 minute song. x_X
Anywayz, it was required that I describe what I did, so here goes...
I drew it, then inked it, then scanned it. >>;
Afterwards, I colored it, I used the smudge tool for the shines of the hair and
I was having a bit of trouble with the black lines, so I lightly erased at it
only leaving the eyes nose, and mouth. The skin, I used some
"multiply" and "screen" brushes, and for the tail, I
overlayed a sort of pattern, then shaded it.
I used some brushes for the corals in the background, and finally s small lens flare on one of the sparkles. And to darken around it, I applyed a faint black brush around the drawing. I tried to use lighting effects but none of them seemed to work for me.
Basically, it took about... 11 layers, I didn't count, but it wasn't a lot. And
not a lot of time. Actually, I'd do something and come back to it, so I guess
that doesn't count. ^^; Let's see.. .I suppose I took a few hours on this, all
together... but then I spent a lot more deciding on the lighting effects.
>< Oh! And have fun changing the hues. It's really cool, I couldn't decide
which one would look better. If it was all red, she'd look like an evil sea
serpent, try it!
Whew! I hope that explains it all. Ah! And I shall stick a plug in!

Reason:Usually abstract and scans don't
mix, and people resort to a pretty background for the scan. But in this case,
there's an exception. Abstract actually complemented this scan.

I hope I did this right. Woohoo! I could please 2 groups at once!

Interesting use of lighting, I like the way it gradually gets darker as the light fades away. The energy ball, or whatever you choose to call it, helps to bring focus to the mermaid's eyes and seems to work well as a focal point
.
I'm also liking your use of texture in her tail and the way it too sparkles with
the energy ball and stands out from the darkness of the background. The gradient
fade in the background I can see was also created to match the color theme of
the blue in her hair and the green in her tail, which really blends the whole
theme together. It's good to see a more original concept, as well as a good
execution of it, I hardly ever see anime mermaids
.
hu, i hope i can comment over here ... i don't know if it's reserved for that contest you talk about. But i would like to give you my opinion ^_^
First, you should tell to everybody to download it full view cause it's splendid when it's on full view. I thought while looking at the thumbnail that it was ok but a little simple but fullview give a total new dimension to your work.
First we can catch the distance between the corail and the mermaid ; that effect is amazing ; and i don't know how but it reproduces the little "blurryness" of the deepness in the sea.
Second, there are no "dead spots" as i say often. I explain ... while looking an image with a background you are often interested to see the details of a part but then you get lost in a dead spot , a part with no details or not matching the earlier seen part.
In your work, we can keep focused everywhere. There is always something new to see.
I also love the way you made the coloring. It reminds me a style i saw way way way before coming here and discovering manga. It's great to mix this coloring style with "manga design". It's so "bubblegum" ^_^ This is made better by the absence of very thick dark lines.
I also like the way you played with light effects. It looks real ^_^
The sole problem i have with it is that some lines could have been cleaned a little more. There is a mix of clean and less clean lines in the draw. For example, the ends of her hair , or the top of the ribbon in the center. i think you should choose between making dark borders or not. The presence of both is a little confusing.
But anyways, it's really something beautiful and i do hope you'll win that contest ^_^
Fav for me with no doubt
yeah... ask papy said... full view looks much much more attractive!! amazing color blending and overall looks very nicely!!

I like the swell aura in this wall, the originality put into Wallpaper version is superb, The underwater bg is almost perfect, could use some fishes in the bg but noentheless its a nice job on the concept! Great job Girl!
Love the under the sea mermaid idea. It's so pretty~ First off, I think you did an amazing job on the bg.
I'm so
envious of that. I could never do anything that nice. ^.^ Now to the mermaid,
her eyes are beautifully done and her face shows a slight maturity to it. I
like the way you try to get rid of your lineart but at some part, it becomes
slightly rough and sticks out, but mostly in her hair. The outline around her
skin is really nice and have a nice sketchy feel to it. I like the textures and
alternating colors in her tail. Nice work there. The ribbon is good too but
you need to a shadow for it on her body. Other than that, this is really a
beautiful piece of art. ^.^
definitely looks so much better full view. you did an amazing job on your mermaid's tail, and i luv all the sparklies! but i also noticed some thicker black lines around some parts of her hair and the ribbons. the sea background looks so nice and there's incredible detail to your mermaid!
It looks very nice though I think it'd look better if you outlined it on computer rather than inking it before scanning cause some of the outline's pretty uneven. You did a really great job on the tail. The background's very pretty, the coral looks great^^
You did a very nice job^^ But even if she's a mermaid, she could do with a bit more clothes
i agree. the dimensions of this wall is very good and appropriate. i'll give this one a fav. the critique were mentioned already and i have nothing else to say.
waii great job!! she is really cute!! and i just love the colors u used...great job ne!
hmm.except her face (i mean the shape of her head, the eyes are ok:) ) the mermaid looks very good^^ i very like the colors and her pose too:)
awesome work on the drawing eve-chan. ^^
looks cute and like the coloring job.
I guess it can be a bit more proportional through.
other then that nice work.
*9.45 and Grade AA* for yet another great work.
Really excellent work Eve
I love
the mermaid, she's so pretty! The colors are really well chosen and the effects
and overall outlook is great. Good luck on the contest! Love it ^^
not bad , i must say.
The char is nicely drawn.
The coloring is alright.
Improvement perhaps in propotion-wise.
NOnetheless awesome effort.
Kudos to the guinea pig! I really love the colors and how they are so bright and stand out from most wallpapers I have seen. Whoever said that the mermaid should have more clothes on I have to disagree with them. Mermaids are one of the only things that are allowed to be topless lol I mean come on its a mermaid right? Plus I love how you did it and how the streams of her clothing are floating in the water. Awesome work Eve, your work is great, as always.
wow the Mermaid is cute and interesting too. I like her hair and the bg is great. Thank you so much for it
the composition of the wallie ish reallie good
i
just like the way how you place everything together and they've got the
realistic atmosphere eventhough the mermaid ish just a doujin. the underwater
scene ish just pwettie and you portrayed the whole scene very well
the colors are nicely picked. they bring more life to the wall. those shades and tones you did for the wallie ish just awesome. the choice of colors fit well with each other and i don't think there's anything wrong with them at all
overall .. very nicely done .. ps : not commenting on the doujin cause it's a wallie contest not dounjin.
