Wow I haven't submitted anything for around a month... >_> Well, exams are pretty much over so I finished this wall which I started a month back...

Right anyway, for this one the background was done completely from scratch, the bridge included. Yes, believe it or not, I drew every last evil pixel of the bg. I would say that this one involved more time, effort and angst than my Home Sweet Home wall.

As for layers, I can't even be bothered to count them all, especially since I made most of it in separate files and then shoved them together to minimise lag. But if I was to guess, I'd say its somewhere between 200 and 300 layers. Considering the buildings took about 200 layers.

I know my extraction skills stink, plus the orignal scan wasn't very high quality, and on top of that I had to enlarge it a bit to fit the size I wanted. Really sorry about that.
Scan from minitokyo scan gallery, submitted by Miroku4444.

The building was drawn based on a photo I found on the net, it was the most irritating and frustrating thing I've ever drawn on Photoshop. And still it turned out to be the worst part of the wall T_T Everything's really wonky and it doesn't seem to fit in that well. If you really want to know, I pretty much drew the whole thing with chunks of strategically shaped colours. And I used a brick texture for the walls. And yes, those weird things sticking out of the water are... well weird but meh, it was on the photo and it'd look empty if I took them out. I have no idea what they are.

The bridge was actually quite fun, the bricks and sandstone texture were made with filters.
Meh, and I really suck at drawing clouds >_<

Right, I thought that I should dedicate this wall to the people who are currently kind of away from MT due to various reasons, such as Semanga, Samanosuke, Crewcifix, Melmachine and Flowerdog. I haven't really talked to many of them properly but it suits the theme and I'm sure many people here are waiting for them to return.

Enough babbling from me. And like I always say, comments are really welcome, both good and bad. Although I have a feeling that there's going to be a lot of crits this time... >_>

The background is from scratch??? Omg, how did you do it?! X_X

You have so much patience for this, awesome job on the wall! She really does blend in, with the sunset and everything. I'm just really blown away by that background. ^^

    +fave!

PS. Aww, thanks for that plug-in. x_x That's so sweet of you!

  2. andRox Jun 11, 2005

The first thing i noticed about this wall was the bridge, it came out very nicely.
This wall has such an interesting concept and the scan, although the scan is not of higth quality,
fits very well within this wall.
Well once again you produced a very nice work..keep it up!!!
    ~Cya~

  3. walkure245 Jun 12, 2005

Are you kidding? I am awed by your walling abilities and artistic skills. You recreated the buildings amazingly. I would not have the patience to do that. >_< It looks so skillfully done. You have to tell me your secrets. Tee-hee~ The scan looks good to me. Even if there was something, it would only enchance the antiquity feel of the paper. The bridge is so beautifully done and love all the textures. Simply amazing! XD Must fav!

  4. hykyit Jun 12, 2005

    >.< Kara-chan~!! You've made another wonderful wallpaper again!! OMG! The buildings must have taken up forever!! Yup~ The scan really needs improvement...But cant blame you that much as i've seen this scan before and the scan is pretty blur.. But you'll need to do some cleaning to make it look nicer..I hope the tutorial i give you will be of help ^_^' .. What? The clouds are really OK you know~ But if it's drawn then it should be very good! Not many of us here know how to draw clouds...Its really hard.. The sea...Wow! I like the sparkles of the water beneath the sunset~!! XD The bridge is really good too!! Tell me what filters you use to make it like this pls! The thing sticking out of the water?? Ermm..Let's imagine there's somebody snokelling underneath ^_^' ..Hahaha~ Good job again~!! ^^

  5. flyindreams Jun 12, 2005

Yah, the scan is not great quality, but the background makes up for all that. Some of the windows on the buildings look really close to the edges... not a big deal, just a small aesthetic detail. I think that a bit more glowing font might be nice for the "awaiting for you" because there are stars and things around it. But overall it looks amazing! You must have spent forever on this!

Hey, I didn't get the notification for this *humph* Oh well, got here anyways XP
It's wonderful like all the other stuff you usually make... hehe... but again... the bridge that she's on is sooo incredibly smooth it disturbs me ever so slightly... but anyways, thumbs up again ! :D

  7. zaira Jun 12, 2005

wooo pwettie!! bg! looks like in paris hehe the building is soo cool! love the sunset look sky!! the bridge and the light post is soo well detailed though the scan is a bit low quality but overall nice wall!+fav!

  8. crewcifix Jun 12, 2005

this is such a flawless wall.. lol. though there are still a few suggestions that can be taken, i love this for its upmost theme and very comforting mood.

hheee... I GOTS mentioned!! lol. thanks kara. as of now, my pc had been rebooted but i still experience just a few more errors.. i need to fix my modem and get winzip and anti-virus soon.. >>; so i can finish downloading scans and fonts. lol.

anyway, back to the wallie -- one word. cool.

  9. snuffy Jun 12, 2005

it is a realli nice wall.... i dont wanna bag out the buildin u spent so much time makin.... but.... somehow it doesnt seen to realli fit.... but it trully is a magnificent piece of work...the fact u did it entirely urself... is OMG already... lol... i think its the fact that it looks like its floatin on water that makes me not like it as much... coz normalli... isnt there like a wide sidewalk and then a wharf?? i duno...

the scan is a bit more pixelated than ur usual ones... but that doesnt matter too much

anyhow... overall... its good.... stunnin.... and i like it ^^

  10. ramchong Jun 12, 2005

  14. bbls Jun 13, 2005

wow, you're background is amazing! and i luv the concept of your wall, as well...it's very original! i just noticed that your top balcony is flat and doesn't "stick out" like the bottom one...but i'm not sure if that was intentional. very beautiful scenery and colors... :D

  15. AnFeRnEe Jun 13, 2005

you alwaiz make such nice scenery! evrything is realli nice but the building looks a bit weird..a lil wonky here and there

Well yes, the scan seems a bit blurry but the BG is impressive, I love the buildings and the bridge, really nice effort overall I like it a lot :D

  17. ShiNN Jun 13, 2005

I have to say you did a nice job. Indeed it shows you put lot of effort into it, something that these days looks like an "optional", lol. The idea of using a perspective-based background works very well, but you kinda messed up a bit with it. That leads me to think you pretty much drew the background without using guidelines to help you get a perfect and flawless perspective. Draw vanishin point, horizon line, planes and guidelines, all those stuff will just help you to get a correct result. If you are not well informed about perspective I can link you here: http://www2.evansville.edu/studiochalkboard/draw.html , study this and next time you plan to make heavy use of perspective for a background remember to use guiding lines! ;)

  18. Skillzpay Jun 14, 2005

Yeah when those finals are done with everything is just grand isn't it? :)
Man I've got to say this is very impressive. Those buildingsand the bridge are just so beautifully done and the whole ocean scenery works quite well with the character. Just a shame that the character had to be enlarged a bit or else this would be pretty much flawless.
Still, this is definitely fav worthy as it's clear a lot of work went into this and of course cause it looks so splendid.

  19. tevi Jun 14, 2005

Cor! You actually *drew* all those buildings??? Freak! =P But we lubs you anyway [although we're kinda a teensy bit jealous and all... 'cause we're all stupid, etc. ^^;;] I like the sunset colours, but maybe you could have put a bit more contrast in the piccie... But otherwise, it's a great pic! ['cept for maybe that she's kinda crying and happy, which isn't my type of thing... >_>]

  20. yukihoshi Jun 14, 2005

omg...so pretty!!!!! you've made my nemu proud XD XD XD i'm sure if nemu was real, she would be overjoyed and completely flattered :D

  21. toujin1 Jun 14, 2005

bah,......damn thats good...really really good!!! and that background is just amazing! keep at it!

  22. cerinia Jun 19, 2005

It looks fine!! It's not wonky ... as I said before, is it humanly possible to make a bg like this? :P *worships*

  23. xsosid Mute Member Jun 20, 2005

wow, awesome background and great effort, though the extraction need to fix, coz i seen a few jagged line on her hair, but the background is impressive!

  24. quiball Jun 20, 2005

wow, that building must have taken so long! great effort! keep up the good work! (but don't stop studying)
