This is my Entry for the first Underappreciated Wallpaper Contest. ^_^ The Theme is "Original"
Now to tell you about this image...
It was
drawn for me as a birthday present by a friend of mine~ It was MEANT to be a
wallpaper, but all he ever did was a sketch and way back when I first got it I
was clueless about vectoring, so it just sat around forever! But when this
contest came around, I remembered this image and thought "PERFECT! It's
original, interesting and fun!"
The characters are Omoide ~ the guy with the iridescent hair and the blue robes and Terra (me). Omoide is the character I made to represent my computer and I thought it would be cool to have a wallpaper of Omoide and that spurred the creation of this image in the first place... and now it has earned it's place as a wallpaper! I think I outlined and colored it very well and I'm very proud of it~ FIFTY layers! That's right FIFTY!
Here's a link to the original scetch and a fun bonus wallpaper

[Edit-2am] I have just been introduced to the most wonderful thing... something called "Brushings" I'd never encountered before! I think my wallpaper is better now ^_^ I'm happy~! I wanted to do something like this before I submitted the first time but I didn't know how! Thank you KuroiMisa!
[Edit-A few days later]The group mentioned something about explaining my
process, so here it is. I always start out in my vectors by drawing the outlines
with my mouse with a 3pt round brush. So I trace the image I'm vectoring. In
this one, I also put in the object at Omoide's hand (originally the Minitokyo
mini page) because the original sketch had something there too. Then I do the
base coloring, add shading and shine and other color definition things on
separate layers. I completed Omoide first, then I did Terra then the shining
Folder on the side. I took a screencap of my desktop so that I could extract the
folder icon... and I don't know what else needs to be said... Oh! When I learnt
about brushes I decided to add the Honeycomb effect and I wanted to make it a
little incomplete and random (kinda like missing information blocks... you know
how the details look when you're defragging, right?) And the box squiggles were
added to kind of represent moving information as if it's really inside a
computer

What a cute idea! I can really imagine lil people inside my computer trying hard to open files and stuff.
The
poses are really cute and the cging is pretty good but a lil rough at spots.
This is really an original idea and totally like it.
WOW! Indeed this is a very good entry... lol... you didn't have to be that fast though O_O I've barely started myself... and plus judging will just have to wait for 2 weeks when people are slowly submitting in their links... fifty layers?! O_O The most I have ever used was maybe 25 lol! Great job... a definite fave ^^
Its a good idea, Nice gift if it came from ur friend. Anything that takes someone time and effort into makeing should be rewarded
They stole my mp3 directory *chases after them* I will go with the wtf!!!!!! 50 layers geez what the hell did you do with them all. Very nice gift from your friend the characters are cute and a nice job on the colouring in
good
luck on the contest
Ahhh..... that's the way to go ^^ That was unexpected how you used the brushes, but it adds so much more depth to the wall ^^ I can't shell out another fave though now unfortunately lol... but it's better than the first version ^^ PS: It's so late ! lol... go and have some rest ^^
What a great entry, you took 'original' literally didn't you. You did a exceptional job colouring the characters, nice job!

;_; so pretty.... wish I had those skills... *huggles her color pencils*
Very nice work u did there, the 'brushings' make the wall look so much better.. ur colorings are great, you captured most of the details of the original sketch. Good job.
my ggod fifty layers... well u hit the nail on originality...its really good
Fifty Layers?!?!?!?! Holy cow, that is a lot of layers.
It looks great though, definitely can see that you spent a lot of work on it. Very original, and very cool. Great job.

This is great!!! I love how you cg-ed it!!! Lovely lovely concept!!! Thankie so much for sharing it!!! Good luck on the contest!!! +favie
The background is quite nice. It looks detailed with some sort of technological field, as if the 2 characters are on a mission to access the files. The background colors coordinate well. The details of the 2 characters were wonderfully drawn with the use of vectors. However, I recommend a better use of the pen tool and clean-up after the use of the pen tool, which includes better connection of the outlined areas and adding to white areas which were missed while vectoring the colors of the characters (clearly, adding to those areas wasn't a problem for you, and I'm sorry if it sounds so confusing...I'll clarify what I'm saying if you do not understand). Also, there is a minor discrepancy on the female...at the immediate top of her hair on the left, the brown color leaves the outline. Keep up the good work.
the composition of the wall ish not bad .. the charas and how they're placed into the bg .. the seem to be suitable for each other. just that maybe it'd be better if the outlines for the vector would be a lil smoother. but since you've used the brush tool instead .. it's not bad
color choice for this wallie ish nice. the colors compliment with each other and brings out each character on their own. though omoide's hair doesn't look like it's been brushed nicely.
i think you portrayed what you had in mind quite well. the screen, folders and techie bg conveys the digital world well. the tech brushes isn't used too excessively. and i kinda find that the folder omoide's holding ish kinda big (XD) but it straightaway gives you the message what you intended to do.
your choice of wall ish nice and original as i haven't come across any wall like this before. overall .. this ish a nice piece just that there's a lil error here and there
Hmm I really like the concept of this wall, it's very original and I definitely like the idea.
The composition is quite good too, it is better that you've gone back and brushed up the background and the brushes you've used are quite relevant to your idea, but some more variety with the brushes would look nicer.
I agree with chibi-lizard in that your outlining are abit wobbily. The shading's at the appropriate places but once again they could be smoother. It's quite good considering that it'd done with a brush but I'd suggest you find a vectoring tutorial just to help you perfect it.
The floating folders is a really interesting idea except they don't match with the rest of the wall. The folders are made up of very big pixels while the rest of the wall, plus the folder held by you consists of small fine pixels. Maybe you meant for it to be that way, but I just think that it doesn't fit together very well.
But overall, I'm very impressed by your imagination and the sense of originality of the wall. Great work^^
