Must remember to copy/save what I write next time so that I don't have to rewrite these things
Quote by tarerenHey, thanks for
the comment there XD but I was not planning to make a hill you see, it was just a field, a widespread one at that ;) the
horizon doesnt really cut off at the church, it is somewhere behind it (not too far away) cos the church is not really
at the tip of the grasses, erm, was trying to create the impression that it was as far as we can see from here
>.< Erm, maybe you were right about creating mountain, was debating with myself whether to create it or
not cos it might destroy the whole feel of the background :) nonethless, thanks for the comment you gave, will try my
best to do better next time :D
You're certainly welcome for the comment, not sure if it came across, but I do overall like the wall, but I prefer
to post critique to maybe help :D
Hm... I guess I see your point about the concept, since I didn't specifically know that you were going for a flat
feel to the plains. I think the reason that I felt it was the crest of the hill can be broken down to two things,
though since I you'd probably want to look at pictures or paintings to find out how to get the complete flatness of
terrain. Though... are you looking for realistic plains or a idealized version of plains? If the former, there are
some rolls and such even in really flat plains, so you should be able to do some easy fading/shading and foreshortening
to get the distance feel to the horizon line. If the latter? I don't have such a good idea... hmm. Anyway, the
two things that I think made me believe there was a hill:
reason a: the church. This is a combination of a couple things, but in short, because the church is both close to the
viewer (by its size), and the horizon line, we have to conclude that the horizon line is also close to the viewer.
Unless you have an assumed depth (hidden from view by a hill or such), I think we need a little more grassland for us
to see beyone the church...
reason b: the grass. This is a little more telling. I can see some strands of grass mixed with the sky on the horizon.
Again, since I can see details on the horizon, I assume that it is close.
Maybe... instead of looking for grassland pics or paintings, you could gain inspiration from ocean pictures? It sounds
like that is the kind of feel that you are looking for; an ocean of grass. Obviously you ignore the waves (except for
the telling on the amount of detail you need for the grass), and water lighting effects, but it might give you an idea
on how to get that distance feel since I am having trouble envisioning a way to do so -_-
And finally, I'd like to say that I really do like this wall. In fact I probably wouldn't be picking on it so
much if I didn't XP Sorry, I tend to be somewhat perfectionist. Anyway, please keep that in mind and share more
of your walls with us in the future XD
