I just stumbled across the Yoshitaka Amano gallery first thing this morning,
and, well... I just had to make a wallpaper. 
He's one of
my favorite artists. Thank you, markjo, for submitting the incredible scans...
This is definitely the darkest wallpaper I've done so far, but then, the subject
matter kind of required it. The quotation featured in this wallpaper was
originally made by Alfred de Vigny:
"Seul le silence est grand; tout le reste
est faiblesse...
Fais energiquement ta longue et lourde tache...
Puis, apres, comme moi, souffre et meurs sans parler."
(Silence alone is great; all else is feebleness...
Perform with all your heart the long and heavy task...
Then as do I, say naught, but suffer and die.)
I have to say, it seems to capture the spirit that I was in when I created this better than anything I could have made up. Meh, I guess that's all I really have to say, I'll just let the wallpaper speak for itself.

This is a great looking wallpaper. The art is good. Of course it is Amano, and he is freaken awesome.

question:
is that the original english translation? because for the last line, i get
"Then, thereafter, like me, suffer and die without saying anything."
it could be correct though... I'm not really used to old english
expressions...

simple and creepy, but i have to disagree with nekosasu - i dont wub the text at all :| diff. font/composition would make it look even better...or not....
Hehe, this is a nice wallpaper Makhan. The colors come together very nicely, and I love the image you used. The text does need alittle work, but overall this is your best wallpaper yet. Keep up the good work!
ah very nice, the color and the theme fits well together, and the texture is very smooth, I like this one a lot, the blending is wonderful, good job Mak.
No thanking needed - I am pleased that every day I see people who appreciate Amano's art. This one is one of my favourites, probably because the first comment on this one was a simple 'ugly'. The more and more I look at this wallpaper, the more I understand what you mean by the quote you used. Good job!

well of all the Amano artwork I never would have thought that this scan "possesed" by markjo would be made into a wallpaper.
i love the Amano painting and i also love this wallpaper as well. ^_^
the background is simply astounishing- the sheer amout of details is incredible. i wish my monitor's resolution was greater than 1024x768.
