Yeah! I know that feeling... It's more easy doing in photoshop instead of illustrator...
but
well... at least you didn't move your settings... that's the death when you
trying get dark colors... well, this is a good example of detailed work...

Lower portion a bit too bright. Strain eyes. Nicely done. Can make a slightly less bright light with that?
First time illustrator, well I always used illustrator for vectors, so I can't relate.
