Yay finished!
Anyway, I wanted to wall this pretty scan Fantastic Children - Helga (scan) by MapleRose , and because the Fantastic Children gallery looks really empty and this anime needs more love.
So I asked the people at
(thanks for the help guys!) what I should make her lay
on, and under the shadows of a tree got the most votes. So that's what I went
with, playing with the light effects and stuff. I'm not sure if the colours/bg
is too er, happy for her expression, but candy wanted 'moar light!'
. I
guess my interpretation is that even though she's surrounded by beauty, she's
still not happy because she's longing for something (and it sort of fits with
the story/theme of Fantastic Children actually).
Background and shadows are painted in ArtRage. ArtRage + marker tool = <33 Mini-tut on how to use the marker tool.
Since I couldn't use layers in ArtRage, I then exported the paintings and put them (and the scan) together in PSP8. Then did some adjustments/tweaking and stuff. Finally, painted some random (and ugly) flowers in PSP8, 'cause it felt like it needed something more...
Layers: Uh, I forget, about 10-20? But the background is painted on one layer, the shadows on the girl on another, and the rest are adjustments and stuff.
The title, 'cause I'm lame, is from part of the lyrics of the ending theme of Fantastic Children, Mizu no Madoromi by Origa. It means 'small flower', and can either refer to the girl (Helga), or those weird flowers I've painted.

OMG! I'm the first to comment! I'll talk more about the wallpaper, but for now I'm quite busy.
I thought this painting was quite interesting. Something about though seems empty at the same time. Maybe it's because the color of the girl. It's quite destruate when I look at it. Though that's how the scan turned out. The expression on her face looks perfect. It doesn't look messed up when I see it/ I do like how you made the meadow around her. The shades were good and still I have yet to try Art Rage.
the perspective of this wallaper is nice when I think about if I could be like
her lying on the meadows.
Overall it's simplicity when I see this whole wallpaper.
I like the emptiness, it makes you focus on the girl. The background is really neat, great job!
Cool, and I think the soft painting style here fits the girl's expression. Yeah, she does look like longing for someone. I like the textured canvas. But I have to say the flowers look weird. They're not ugly though, just that, you know, lack of depth.
Anyway, what's so special about ArtRage? It doesn't have layers.
so calm.. i wanna be at that place too and leave the problems behind... relax!
i still like how my idea of the snow/blood scenario sounded =(
i like the painting style, and enjoy the lighting effects but that girl looks soo pissed off and so is a very happy green field for her
WOW
thta a wonderful work
it gives a peaceful feeling
well done
Really a good job! Very suggestive the shades that are drawn on Helga, and the colors are appropriate to her expression, that also in a place that expresses peace and serenity there is properly not however a something of foundation calm, as to presage something
Now you did it. A great example of your talent. Err... I mean you did well. Her expression looks as though she's tired of something. Yet, at the same time focused on some serious questions which has answers that can only be heard by a soul that is content and at peace with oneself. The background and colors are just right for her expression. In thinking that she's lying there contemplating the facts and illogical misunderstandings and misninterperetations that are conveyed, her expression stands out because of the particular colors and background you chose. That's the way I see it. And that's why I say you did well. Sorry, I might be sounding full of myself. Whatever. Thanks for sharing your work anyway.
texture, texture, texture

I love the insane painting style too
I have to say I love texture
And the sketch style of your wall is great. We don't see that kind so often.
It looks artistic and it's smooth for the eye. Thanks for sharing with us.

Oh well.
An FC wallie! Wonderful! So happy!
Great job with the colors...it's so springy and pastellish (excuse my made-up words). I hope there's going to be some more Fantastic Children stuff made.
Lovely and great work. ^.^
It's a cute image.
Thanks for sharing
I love the dappled light effect on this, and I think you did a great job adding interest and detail to what was a very simplistic scan. Thanks for sharing. *Goes off to find out more about this Fantastic Children*
I've started watching Fantastic Children and it's indeed a very special and touching anime; I also think it deserves a lot more attention.
As for your wall, it's really beautiful and peaceful, you managed to give it the feeling of nostalgy and longing the anime has. I like it so much and I hope you will consider making other Fantastic Children wallpapers in the future
